What is a “Holistic Marketing Approach”?

How I use the holistic marketing approach to generate awareness, community and sales

After gaining 8 years of experience across different sectors in the marketing industry, I have seen the incredible results of using holistic marketing first-hand.

Now, as a freelance marketer, this is the only approach I offer my clients as I know this is the most effective way to grow a brand’s awareness, community and sales. Keep reading to discover what a holistic marketing approach is and how it would benefit your business.

The Multiple Approaches to Marketing 📊

When it comes to marketing your business, there are multiple approaches. From paid advertising to organic social media, SEO to email newsletters and everything in between.

Each approach has its own benefits, however, the real power comes from when they’re combined.

What is a Holistic Marketing Approach? 🤔

Holistic marketing is an approach that views marketing as an interconnected system, where every marketing channel works together to create a unified and consistent brand experience.

Instead of treating marketing as a series of isolated tactics, holistic marketing integrates all channels to ensure that they align with the company's values, mission, and overall strategy to build long-term relationships with customers.

The Benefits of a Holistic Marketing Approach ✅

Using holistic marketing offers several benefits that can significantly enhance a brand's effectiveness and longevity.

This approach ensures consistency in messaging and customer experience, which helps to build stronger brand loyalty and ultimately, conversions. It’s a sure-fire way to make your audience feel understood and appreciated which, in turn, makes them feel valued and emotionally invested in the business.

How You Can Incorporate it Into Your Strategy 📝

The chances are that you already have most of these channels set up for your business. The only difference is that they’re working as individual, separate channels which is harming your brand’s efficiency, credibility and relationships.

To incorporate the holistic marketing approach into your strategy, you first need to have an overarching mission. For example, to promote the sales of an Autumn ‘24 range. This will allow you to work out how each channel can be best utilised to reach this common goal.

Physically recreating your customer journey will also give you a clear vision as to which channels deserve special attention. It will also give you inspiration as to how you can link each touchpoint together to make your messaging as clear as possible. Look at my example below:

Things to Keep in Mind When Using a Holistic Marketing Approach 💡

When using a holistic marketing approach, there are several things to keep in mind so that your efforts remain cohesive and effective.

For example, you don’t have to be everywhere all at once. Use Google Analytics and platform insights to discover which channels generate the best results for your business and then make sure you’re linking the efforts of those instead of wasting your time and effort elsewhere.

Also, don’t underestimate the power of branding. Having a dedicated brand kit that specifies your colours, fonts and tone of voice will allow your audience to easily recognise your business, which therefore provides your holistic marketing approach with another layer of cohesion.
