If You Don’t Do These Things on Instagram, You’ll Fail

Harness Instagram's power and use it to your business’s advantage

Anyone who uses Instagram to promote their business won't be a stranger to the whirlwind of constant features, guidelines and algorithm changes.

From hashtag debates to posts with minimal reach, low-quality reels to stagnant followers, Instagram can create many frustrations for its users. However, we all keep going back because we’ve seen for ourselves how powerful the platform can be when you get it right.

If you’re tired of trying to keep up with the latest and greatest advice, here are five tried and tested tactics you should incorporate into your social media strategy to guarantee results.

Stay Consistent

Every time the algorithm evolves, consistency remains a paramount requirement for growth. In short, your audience should be able to almost guess how often they can expect to see you.

This doesn’t mean that you have to show up every day if that’s not feasible, but should be showing up at least three times a week on your newsfeed and stories to regularly communicate with your audience. However, if you really want to grow, look at your competitors and replicate a similar posting schedule to accelerate your growth.

Have a Clear Brand

Your business should stand out, differ from competitors and be instantly recognisable because of its unique colour combination, fonts, tone of voice and style of posts.

Unfortunately, brands that don’t have their own identity are offputting to consumers because it looks like that business doesn’t value how it comes across to its customers. This gives the impression that they aren’t authentic, therefore decreasing customers’ confidence in their ability to perform.

Engage with Your Audience

It’s called SOCIAL media for a reason, so you have to be exactly that. Gone are the days of posting and seeing the reach, engagement and followers naturally come flooding in… Now you have to work for your results.

Respond in a timely manner to any inbound engagement in the form of comments or DMs from customers to ensure they feel seen and valued. Utilise outbound engagement by reaching out to accounts via hashtags or suggested accounts to build relationships and generate awareness.

Utilise Your Name and Bio

To free up vital space in your bio, use your name to let people know who you are and what you do. Not only does this instantly introduce you to a potential customer, but the space is also searchable so people can find you based on their search.

In your bio, you have 150 characters to convince profile visitors to stick around and become a follower. Let people know what makes you unique, what they can expect from your profile and how they can work with you.

Don’t Oversell

Think of your own social media. Would you follow an account that only posts about its new products, latest offers and why you should buy from them? No, because that’s boring.

You only have a few seconds to grab someone’s attention while they’re scrolling through their newsfeed so make sure to offer them value in the form of entertainment or information. Remember, it’s about what your customer wants to see, not what you want to say.
