Do This to Succeed on Social Media

The most important thing a business needs to remember in order to grow

If you’re a business owner trying to grow your company’s community on social media, you might be following numerous accounts that share their advice and best practices.

While it’s beneficial to discover a range of advice from industry experts, it’s only going to be effective if you’re digesting this information.

With this in mind, let me cut through all of the white noise that comes with being constantly bombarded with facts, figures and instructions.

The One Thing to Remember on Social Media

It's really quite simple: don't be boring.

Social media is a fast-paced, competitive environment where people have millions of accounts to interact with. So, why would your customer choose to engage with your account over your rival? If you don’t have an answer, that’s why your account isn’t growing.

With the increase in demand for short-form video content, your customer’s attention span is already at an all-time low and you need to be able to jump in front of them, pique their interest and persuade them to become a part of your community.

Don't be "That Person"

How many times have you had a conversation with someone and walked away drained at how much the other person just spoke about themselves? I’m sure it made you feel like you didn’t want to rush back for a second chat.

When you’re only promoting your business, products and services, that’s exactly how your customer is going to feel. The harsh reality is that the person who cares most about your business is you. Your customer cares about themselves and what you can do to benefit them.

Think Before You Post

When you next come to post on social media, put your customer right at the forefront of your mind and think:

  • What is this meant to make them feel?

  • Are they going to understand what I’m talking about?

  • Is this solving a problem of theirs?

  • Are they likely to find this interesting?

The more you have fun on social media and treat it as a place to express your brand and build your community, the more potential customers are going to want to follow along on your journey.
